“With human activity fuelling the climate and biodiversity breakdown, I consider our existence in geological time.”
In Remnants of the Anthropocene Simmons utilises contemporary remote sensing and geospatial mapping techniques to digitise anthropogenic topographies in acts of cultural heritage and digital preservation for future civilisations.
The works exhibited present the roundabout as a distilled depiction of a contemporary landscape shaped by human endeavour. Civil engineering, landscape architecture and transportation are graphic evidence of how the great acceleration has shaped our environment and is currently leading to our downfall.
Using photogrammetry, virtual photography, film and animation, the studies are presented as holograms, prints and videos in a museum like display of future histories.
